Soho House proudly opened its brand new hotel just last month. The new house is located in the heart of Amsterdam, in a beautifully repurposed 1930s university building , overlooking the Singel canal. I was so lucky to get the opportunity to stay there 2 weeks after its official opening. A bit about Soho House – it is a private members club, which prides itself on privacy and tranquility. No photography is allowed, neither is talking on the phone – it may sound scary but in reality, it is all very zen.
The entrance is private, with subtle signage. My room was on the 2nd floor, overlooking the canal. What can I say? High ceilings, attention to detail, cosy vibes and Cowshed products for days. It could be heaven, and as far as I am concerned I could live there and never leave. The bed was fantastic, sleeping on a cloud with different pillows to suit every taste. During my stay, my friends wanted to explore early but I just snuggled up for 2 more hours every morning, because it was THAT good. The style is art-deco with a touch of vintage, every piece of furniture is specially crafted for the hotel, and the designers have done an outstanding job putting it all together.
An insider tip: snuggle up with the robe in the wardrobe, it is the best thing that has ever touched my body (I know :D)
Breakfast is on the top floor, just underneath the pool bar area. The vibe in the room is just cool. If I could define cool, it will be that breakfast experience. From the staff, their outfits and chats, to the coffee and the pancakes, I loved it. It has a special edge, something more intimate than just a hotel. I felt like I was in someone’s home and they have just cooked breakfast for a bunch of people who are staying over. This feeling is so difficult to achieve most of the time but it is exactly what I love in hotels. Private intimacy at top notch quality.
There is a pool, and the view is jaw dropping. It was too cold for us to use it while there, however the vibe and the design were just perfect. I hope I can go back in summer and enjoy the sunshine.
There are multiple chill out areas and kids club around the hotel. There is a gym (a place you never find me) and a very cute laundry service – if someone can make laundry look sexy it is Soho House.
The Cowshed spa and Cecconi’s were still under construction but should be open any time now.
Soho House accepts membership applications and you can learn more about it here. As a non member, you can book a room, however you may not have access to all the areas. Either way, it is worth a stay because the rooms are exceptional and the location is superb for Amsterdam wanders. Also, the prices are not the crazy 😉
