Ljubljana was an unplanned quick stop for me this winter. It has taken ages to write this post but I really wanted to share my experience about the town and my stay at Intercontinental as well. Because both were freakin fabulous and I absolutely loved Slovenian hospitality, the beautiful city and the yum food.
Intercontinental Ljubljana is a 5 star luxury hotel just a l5 minute walk to the city centre and beautiful old town. Super modern rooms and facilities, including a 360 degree view of the city from the pool on the 18th floor, it is a true gem. I arrived late and the guys were super helpful to get me a room and also give me an amazing upgrade for my short stay.
I got a corner Executive room with a beautiful view and a bathroom, which I wished I could pack up and take home. The bathroom was too cool, all marble and separate bath and shower, enough room to host an intimate party of 20. I was hanging out in there for quiet some time to be honest, as there is nothing I love more than a good bathroom in a hotel. OK, maybe a coffee machine but I find this being a necessity.
The bed was huge and super comfy, after my bathroom party I spent the rest of the night snuggled up in there watching reality TV. Because guess what? they are one of the hotels that actually invest in their TV package and had a wide range of English channels. I really appreciated that. I never understood what the issue with this is around the world. I have stayed in all kinds of 5 star hotels, ultra luxury hotels etc… and it kills me when I turn on the TV and there is BBC and CNBC, like seriously? Is the £20 a month more for the English channels package going to break the bank given you charge like anything from £300/night? I know, I have worked in hotels and I am sure there is some sort of an explanation but I just cannot accept it – if I am paying that much a night I want to watch Bravo FOREVER 😀
The food was really good as well. I had no time for breakfast but had dinner and lunch at the hotel and the quality and quantity was more than satisfactory. the downstairs bar lounge area is also really relaxing.
Intercontinental Ljubljana’s wifi worked amazing. Overall I recommend this hotel fully if you need a place stay in Ljubljana and just expect everything to work.
If you want to do what I did, stay in Ljubljana and then call a taxi to drive you to Trieste. It costs something like 80Eur (season dependent) and from there you can take the train to anywhere in Italy (aka Venice for me). Also, Trieste is a gorgeous day trip.
