Hotel Esplanade Zagreb is right at the entrance of the city centre, perfect location. It is a representation of Eastern European luxury and glamour, and being Eastern European myself I obviously loved it. As I was doing a small central/Eastern European trip, I travelled from Budapest to Zagreb and although not a significant distance, boy do you get a different level of luxury for your buck.
Unlike the Sofitel in Budapest, the Esplande Zagreb was stunning inside and out. Rich marble decor in the lobby (which might be a bit too shiny) but I felt it was delicately balanced by the wooden, vintage features. Great service – pleasant and discreet staff, always willing to help or recommend the best cocktail in the bar. The hotel is super decently priced compared to what you get for it. Shall we take a tour?
I loved the colours, the light – everything. Sometimes I get these lucky interiors, which the camera just loves. I felt I could take a photo after photo to capture those colours and the light. It was a stunning combination, not only to photograph but also to observe. The bed was divine and amazingly comfortable, I struggled to get out. I wanted to take it with me but – hand luggage only…
The bathroom was big and all marbled up, of course. Although the room was overlooking the internal courtyard of the hotel, I still found the view beautiful with the vintage windows and the lights at night.
One of the best room service experiences recently. I ordered during the night, and the food was at my door at 9:00 on the dot. The one thing I hate in hotels is when you indicate what time you want your breakfast and you sit there waiting and crickets… This was super cool, and also the food was to die for and cheap. I think breakfast for 2 was something like 30 euro, and you can judge for yourself if that was too much for what we got.
There is a cute coffee shop on the ground floor as well with beautiful vibes.
I love bars where you have the bartenders tell you the story of the drinks, and recommend their own. This is one of those places. Sit back, relax and let the bartender get you pleasantly surprised with his creations every time. Strongly recommend if you are visiting Zagreb, just pop over and have a drink even if you decide not to stay there.
The location is superb. As my visit was around Christmas, I was lucky enough to be a 1 minute from the Advent Zagreb or a Winter Wonderland for grown ups. Ice skating rink, mulled wine, live music, food and stalls with hand made items.
The wifi was fantastic, free, and a high speed. I definitely recommend the Esplanade Zagreb, you won’t regret it.
