When June approaches, there is one thing in my head – lavender. Endless fields of purple dreams surround London, and this year I promised myself that I am going to spend at least a day in one. I am not particularly fond of the country living lifestyle, however there is something so beautiful when it comes to blooming fields.
The Hop Shop Kent:
The Hop Shop in Kent is a 50 minute drive from Central London and about 25 min on the train from Victoria. It is based on the grounds of a family run farm – Castle Farm, which caters for the seasons with fresh, local produce. If you are taking the train, know that you need to take a walk from the station to get to the actual field. However, the walk is worth it. If you are lazy like me, you can always get a cab.
The Hop Shop is a lavender farm, comprising of gorgeous fields, a gift shop, coffee shop and a lavender oil production plant. When you visit, you can buy all things lavender but you can also go for a lavender tour and a picnic between 6:30-8:30 in summer.
This view can be yours if you make it to the farm and stay for their picnic times. It is an amazingly peaceful experience.
We explored the grounds and then went to learn more about lavender. Apparently you cannot get the oils and aromas from all types of lavender, so the Hop Shop grows 2 kinds hence the different colours. I won’t spill all the beans, so you can enjoy the facts of the tour 😉
What is so special about lavender?
Apart from being an absolute stunner when it blooms, lavender helps you sleep. If you have some sleepless nights, a few drops of lavender on a handkerchief next to your pillow can do wonders. You can also use it as a calming massage oil or bath essence. In summary lavender helps you ‘take a chill pill’.
I cannot recommend this experience enough. If you missed it this year, mark your calendars for 2018.
